Paul Bodden: Music & Lyrics

Huffa Chuffa

(PAUL BODDEN, vocals; SETH WEINSTEIN, piano & harmony vocals)
Words by Lois Raff-Corwin, Music by Paul Bodden; Arrangement Bodden & Weinstein
I met Lois in a Writing for Musical Theater class. One day she showed me this lyric and the song just wrote itself. Lois is a puppeteer. The song is for a puppet show about the folk hero, John Henry.
HUFFA CHUFFA, HUFFA CHUFFA, choo choo.
Baby's cryin’ how he wants his woo woo.
Now he's happy baby drinkin’ moo moo
Rockin’ to THE RAILROAD LULLABYE.

HUFFA CHUFFA, HUFFA CHUFFA, big train
Wailin’ with her whistle like she's got pain,
Now she starts to moanin’ with a low strain
That we call THE RAILROAD LULLABYE.

Later life is tuffa
You'll be tough enuffa
Some day! Baby don't be blue,
Now's the time for sleepin’
While the stars are peepin’
Out there, baby for you.

HUFFA CHUFFA, HUFFA CHUFFA, ding dong.
Baby's eye's are closin’ to the train song.
Bogey man's a-leavin’, tell him "So long!"
Rockin’ to the railroad... Hush now, don't cry,
Rockin’ to THE RAILROAD LULLABYE.
HUFFA CHUFFA choo choo, bye bye!
