From the recording Born To Be His (The Older Man)
Steve Ross suggested that I write a "romantic" song about how I met my partner.
It began with a look
Or was it a grin?
Then one day came the smile
Said, "where have you been?"
Then a light in his eye
Told me that I had been BORN TO BE HIS;
Also: "Golly, gee whiz!"
We went out to the movies.
We touched in the dark.
When we talked over dinner,
It was only a lark.
But much later I knew
It really was true I'd been BORN TO BE HIS.
Golly, gee whiz!
And so love began
With a certain older man.
Did I mention martinis?
He gave me my first.
And his friends, when they met me,
Expected the worst,
‘Til that light in his eye
Told them that I had been BORN TO BE HIS.
It began as a secret no one could know.
What began as a secret, started to grow.
Loving in secret runs deep, even so,
I wondered, in secret, how far love could go?
Twenty years later
Plus one or two more,
We're enjoying the roses
That grow ‘round our door.
And that light in his eye
Still tells me that I have been BORN TO BE HIS.
Golly, gee whiz.
And tho' it was never my plan,
I'm in love with that certain older man.
